Here's to the Sunset Grill
Merry Christmas all!!
I had a visit from my brother this past week. He flew in for 4 days and we had a great time and some overindulgence and some reminiscing. One of the points I was sure to include was a trip to the namesake of this off-topic area of our NEWR forums, the real live "Sunset Grill". Or should I say 'ONE OF' the real live ones. The one this forum is named after is the one on Sanibel Island off the gulf coast of South Florida. (If you hear Don Henley singing you may be a tad west of here.) This Sunset Grill is a very casual bar & grille with a deck that looks out over sand dunes to the Gulf of Mexico a stone's throw from the narrows which separates Sanibel and Captiva Islands. Lots of sand and shells. Sanibel is world renowned for shelling. The lunch was great, the Grouper sandwich and beers delicious, the prices were family style as well as the hospitality. From there a walk across the street to the shore and birds and sightseers and early afternoon sun, temp around 74F (23C). The water was cool, in the low 60's no doubt, which is the average evening temps right now, despite some cold fronts trying to yank it down. So here's to Christmas, my brother Dave, the Sunset Grill and all who may take the slow ride north to the tip of Sanibel after us. (Tip: get the Grouper sandwich) ![]() sunsetgrillsign.jpg (Size: 4.62 KB / Downloads: 23)
