human + computer
I attended a conference today from a software company, Palantir software.
A point was being made about human computer interaction which reminded me of this forum and Tom's trading systems, this one & STAR. After 1996 when Kasparov was defeated by Deep Blue, he had the idea for freestyle chess: from wikipedia Quote:After this spectacular match, and many other matches against computers, Garry Kasparov had the idea to invent a new form of chess in which humans and computers co-operate, instead of contending with each other. Kasparov named this form of chess "Advanced Chess". There was a competition called Zacks in which grandmasters and supercomputer would compete against anyone in this Freestyle chess in which anything goes. Kasparov said you could take moves from the devil if you wanted ;-) Quote:Dark horse ZackS wins Freestyle Chess Tournament Had some links, but you can look up in google. Anyway the winner was 3 moderately skilled chess players with a moderate chess program and 3 PC's defeating supercomputers & chess grandmasters!! So the takeway was that moderately skilled human + moderate computer program + good process defeated skilled human + skilled computer + poor process Anyway I was reminded of the trading setups that Tom has been developing. He has really made amazing processes so that not so skilled humans (like myself) can take advantage and defeat the big boys with their supercomputer like HFTs, legions of programmers and even super intelligent fundamental macro analysts. What matters is getting tools that enable and augment our analysis. Not something that does the work for us! Kudos to Tom! |

Speaking of "tools that enable and augment our analysis," I'm reminded of the development, recently, of some new tools for both NEWR and STAR. Most recent, are the new fonts that Steve Tan generated and posted in this forum last night. Now, one can place any of the correctly formatted degree notations directly onto an MT4/5 chart. Nice!! Less recently, within the past month or so, Tim, one of our brilliant STAR members, provided us with a new MT5 Control Panel, that, in my opinion, was a quantum leap in aiding us to more accurately analyze the structure and development of wave formations and price action, that result in potential trade setups. (Part of the basis of the STAR system is capturing the continuously changing speed of price action in the various markets. One of the major limitations we faced was the fact that MT4/5 provided only a finite number of chart speeds (timeframes) with which one could analyze price/wave action. This new tool virtually eliminates that limitation!) Subsequently, Tom, as a result of having this new flexibility (I am assuming this to be true), has developed two new trade setups (still in beta) that, previously, would have been visible only on the potentially rare occasion when those setups might have happened to occur exactly during one of the few timeframes provided in MT4/5. It will be interesting to see, as more skilled programmers become traders, and as more traders become skilled programmers, what new tools we will have at our disposal. Happy trading gang! Bryan |
