RE: Who is "social mood"?
Tom, you’re not talking to a native speaker here – you can’t say “give up” when you mean “surrender”.
I don’t even want to imagine the type of spam that will be posted here after that “teenage widows” research. Oh no, wait, I better brush my hair – Agent Simpson will be at my door any minute! |

Are you o.k.? If it helps, I’ll sprinkle you with iodine until you’re all purple. Or donate a lobe of my liver. It’s a prime quality liver – I don’t even like German beer.

RE: Who is "social mood"?
LOL, yes I am fine.
Don't worry about the research though because the term is not narrow enough to return anything I'd be able to isolate as your intended meaning. You may need to help on this one.

RE: Who is "social mood"?
Glad to read that you’re fine. Although it forces me to question my – purely empirical and egregiously biased – premise that “Homer Simpson likes German beer”. I thought it was a reasonable premise. But everybody who has seen “What About Bob?” knows where an unalterable premise can lead you.
Still: Glad to read that you’re fine. I’m sorry, if those teenage widows cast doubt. I just liked the sound of the words as an opposite to testosterone-driven young men. I’m an editor. That explains a lot, doesn’t it? So far, I haven’t met a good writer who is emotionally detached from his work or his subject. Criticism, which doesn’t take that into account, is bound to be taken as a personal attack. So I posted that little picture to cheer you up – in a more prominent place so it would always be easy to find. Hey, Braveheart, I can’t always be around when the young Englishmen attack.

RE: Who is "social mood"?
Ahh, now I follow some of it.
Not to worry. Criticism is natural. I am not only attached to the work but if you look at my avatar you'll notice that I am already ready, testosterone dripping all over the bench. It's all just virtual. When the final scenes finished up on Return of the King, and they told me that I had to give back the sword, Liv Tyler AND the hair, I was NOT a happy camper.

RE: Who is "social mood"?
Thomas (Scot?) Hennessy, have you noticed that we have subscribers to this thread? We must be somewhat entertaining.
Not WORRIED – that would indeed be a bit condescending. I think I know the difference between a friend and a wet-nurse. Now, what else can I say? – I’m delighted. I’m impressed. I’m moved. I’m so glad that I only activated my Adblock Plus for German websites. You’re the best. I’d even watch a Mel Gibson movie with you.

RE: Who is "social mood"?
Very good. My favorite of his was "The Passion of the Christ".
Entertaining, yes and we may be entertained as well as that. "Always leave 'em laughing" for the one. "If I had to pay for this kind of entertainment, I couldn't afford it" for the other. And thanks, ruby.

RE: Who is "social mood"?
Humor is a form of self-discipline, and although I couldn’t come up with anything entertaining yesterday or today (so far), not ALL is lost as for self-discipline.
The Passion of the Christ? - A surprisingly sanguinary choice for such a sanguine event. But fiat voluntas Tua.

For that matter, and I know this is supposed to be an off topic area, but I would posit this thought in the form of a question... How do we suppose that the EW intricacies form, without so much as skipping a beat, keeping these rules intact, now being verified all the way down at the tick level, at all times and over at least a century with strong evidence of the phenomenon throughout all history? That indeed does take EW off topic, now doesn't it?
